I spent years preparing for this day
Conserving food, ammo and supplies
Little did I know of the truth
That the atomic messiah would bring
There was only one choice to make
To make it fast or slow

The day has come to pass
The final page of history
That wipes away all memory
of our human race

The darkness has come to last
The night falls for eternity
And ends the spark of life
on our planet Earth

Weeks have passed since the initial blast
I dare not go outside, for the air is poison
and my skin burns with radiation
I will not see the sun again
Nor feel the caress of the wind
My own home, my own tomb
